This CME respects your time. These workshops are certified at the very highest level (three-credits-per-hour) by the College of Family Physicians of Canada. Our 3:1 CME saves you much time (and therefore money) over even ostensibly "free" 1:1 CME. You owe yourself at least a quick peek at the relative value calculations

The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada accepts Mainpro+ credits as equivalent (1:1) to MOC credits for Section 1 (i.e., Group Learning). As such, this three-hour, three-credits-per-hour module counts for 9.0 credits in MAINPORT.

Medical CBT is the adaptation of orthodox cognitive behavior therapy for primary care, developed by Greg Dubord, MD, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto. Medical CBT emphasizes ten-minute techniques useful in normal family medicine visits.

American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) members are eligible to receive up to 9.0 Prescribed credit hours for attendance at CBT Canada’s 3.0 hour (/9.0 Mainpro+ credit) workshops due to a reciprocal agreement with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (AAFP, 2016).

All CBT Canada workshops are three-credits-per-hour (3:1) certified by the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) for Mainpro+ group learning credits. In other words, three credits are awarded for every one instructional hour. The majority of modules are 3.0 instructional hours, corresponding to 9.0 Mainpro+ credits. As the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) accepts Mainpro+ credits as equivalent (1:1) to MOC credits for Section 1 (i.e., Group Learning), three-hour, three-credits-per-hour modules count for 9.0 credits in MAINPORT.

Aaron Beck published his groundbreaking book on CBT for depression in 1967, back when many physicians were but a lonely sperm and a lonely egg. As you might expect, the management package has evolved rather profoundly since then. If it's been years since you were last trained in CBT for depression, you're almost certainly not getting the results you and your patients would want to see.

Please join your colleagues to acquire the tools of “CBT for Depression, Version 2025”, an approach that is very different—and very much more effective—than Beck's original package. As always, we assume your appointments are brief, averaging only ten minutes. With that in mind, we teach the tools that are highest in impact and practicality. Topics in the module include:

  • identifying and managing empathy addictions
  • antidepressant alexithymia
  • depressogenic belief identification
  • therapeutic persuasion and the "physics" of CBT
  • goalification, scaling, and I/O charts
  • strategic behavioral antidepressant prescriptions
  • cultivating learned hopefulness / rational reasons for optimism
  • combating rumination spirals
  • breaking through reductionistic stagnation
  • enhancing motivation with the CUE question
  • letting go of the past—and unrelentingly focusing on the future
  • willpower enhancement

The “CBT for Depression, Version 2025 module provides physicians with a clean, contemporary, and comprehensive kit for more effectively managing one of the most common human afflictions.

Today’s stressors are objectively significant. Who among us is immune to the compounding influences of social media, artificial intelligence, political polarization, etc.? Our young are particularly afflicted with anxiety: an astounding 23% of boys & 46% of girls in Ontario live with “high levels of distress” (OSDUHS).

But besides drugs (+/- a stern recommendation to relocate to an isolated Hawaiian island), what tools do you utilize to help the anxious find calmness and focus?

CBT’s tools can help. CBT is by far the most evidence-based non-pharmacologic approach to anxiety, and important components can be effortlessly integrated into normal primary care appointments.

Note: Many of the non-pharmacological tools taught in this CBT Canada workshop are very important to the resilience of physicians, and can be passed along to children and other family members—all while fully respecting their boundaries.
