Conquering fears with CBT
Next session: Wed, May 6, 2026 (12:00PM–3:30PM Eastern)
Earlybird deadline: Fri, May 1, 2026 at 5:00PM Eastern
This CME respects your time. These workshops are certified at the very highest level (three-credits-per-hour) by the College of Family Physicians of Canada. Our 3:1 CME saves you much time (and therefore money) over even ostensibly "free" 1:1 CME. You owe yourself at least a quick peek at the relative value calculations.
The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada accepts Mainpro+ credits as equivalent (1:1) to MOC credits for Section 1 (i.e., Group Learning). As such, this three-hour, three-credits-per-hour module counts for 9.0 credits in MAINPORT.
Workshop overview
Physicians trained in CBT can derive significant satisfaction from treating panic-related disorders. The reason is simple: Most patients respond relatively quickly—and relapse rates are reassuringly low.
Part 1. Panic disorder per se can be treated the British way (Oxford's model) or the American way (BU's model). We're Canadian, so naturally we hono(u)r and
teach both. Happily, the science says that six appointments will often suffice—and we'll teach you exactly what to do.
Part 2. "Recursive disorders" are a frequent fount of frustration for family physicians. Fortunately, here too Oxford's model can be gratifyingly impactful. Join us and
learn some crucial CBT pearls for managing five familiar "symptom spiral syndromes":
* dementia worry
* irritable bowel syndrome
* migraine headaches
* perimenopausal symptoms
* premenstrual dysphoric disorder
Part 3. Specific ("simple") phobias are curiously common: About 10% of your patients have at least one—and 20% of those patients are nearly debilitated. Happily, the
more esoteric phobia names can remain "Greek to you" with zero impact on your ability to treat them. Join us and you'll acquire the essential skills to manage specific phobias in short primary
care appointments.
Part 4. Other anxiety disorder sufferers can at least be comforted by family physicians without specialized training. We cover CBT's most practical pointers for the following set of conditions:
* OCD-related avoidance
* PTSD-related avoidance
* public speaking anxiety
* selective mutism
* separation anxiety
* social anxiety
* test anxiety
Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage.

CBT Canada won the National CME Program Award from the College of Family Physicians of Canada for providing "exceptional learning experiences".
