The CME

The CME pairs two of our most popular workshop modules, certified by the College of Family Physicians of Canada for 6.0 Mainpro+ credits:

Happiness Science
Evidence-Based Guidance for the Universal Human Quest

Each year, over 1,000 academic papers are published in the compelling field of positive psychology. Happiness Science translates the best of that literature into a fast-paced, clinically relevant exploration of what actually makes people happier and what doesn't.

We begin by debunking the leading misconceptions about happiness, many of which are very widespread and very pernicious. We then explore over a dozen happiness-critical topics: the surprising science of awe, the evidence on gratitude (and why most people do it wrong), why experiences beat possessions (except when they don't), the underrated literature on humour, RCT-backed "fun prescriptions", the art of savouring (e.g., this cruise!), and the ten evidence-based factors that distinguish people who thrive under adversity from those who don't. Each topic is grounded in recent meta-analyses and designed for immediate use with patients, with family, and with yourself.

The New Year's Resolutions Lab

Twenty-One Evidence-Based Tools to Make Habits Stick

Eighty percent of New Year's resolutions fail by Valentine's Day, largely because the strategies most people use—SMART goals, accountability buddies, willpower—perform little better than placebo.

CBT has produced an arsenal of high-potency, peer-reviewed behaviour-change tools, many of which outperform unaided willpower by an order of magnitude in head-to-head trials. In this rapid-fire session, we dissect 21 of the most underused techniques—from the Ulysses Pact to the Zeigarnik Effect, from the Regret Lottery to the Dostoyevsky Effect, from the Cortés Commitment to Ironic Process Theory. Each one is practical, memorable, and ready for your next patient conversation—or, perhaps more to the point, for your own New Year's resolution.

The timing is extraordinary: your final CME session falls on New Year's Day itself. You won't just learn twenty-one resolution-keeping tools—you'll learn them on the very morning the world makes its resolutions. And you'll have two more days at sea to let them settle before heading home.

No shirt, no shoes, no CME (regardless of how you identify). However, what you do during non-CME hours is entirely up to you. The CMPA now refers to physician well-being as "the missing quality of care indicator", because it so powerfully predicts patient outcomes. Physician, recharge yourself!

Social gatherings include our Welcome Party on Day 2 (Monday, Dec 28) and our Farewell Party on Day 7 (Saturday, Jan 2), both from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM. All registrants and their guests of all ages are welcome. We also host informal gatherings most evenings at the Wheelhouse Bar.

Your week at a glance

Day 1. All aboard Sun Princess for a 3:00 PM departure from Fort Lauderdale. Settle in, explore the ship, and watch the coastline slip away—the holiday has officially begun.

Day 2. At sea, with CME from 9:30 AM to 11:45 AM. The CBT Canada Welcome Party begins at 5:00 PM. All registrants and all their guests (of all ages!) are encouraged to attend.

Day 3. Cozumel, Mexico. Mexico's largest Caribbean island sits just off the Yucatán coast, with easy access to Mayan ruins, snorkelling, and white-sand beaches. Go ashore or take the day to settle into Sun Princess—you're still discovering her.

Day 4. Belize City, Belize. Located at the base of the Yucatán Peninsula, Belize offers a wealth of attractions. The country's dense rainforest is dotted with Mayan ruins and home to an astonishing range of tropical wildlife, from jaguars and ocelots to keel-billed toucans and howler monkeys. The ancient city of Lamanai—accessible by riverboat through the jungle—is one of the longest-occupied Mayan sites in the region, with temples rising above the canopy. Offshore, the world's second-largest barrier reef offers some of the finest diving on Earth, including the famous Great Blue Hole. Cave tubing through the underground river systems of the Caves Branch is a favourite for the adventurous. And Belize's easygoing ways—a legacy of its past as a British colony and the only English-speaking country in Central America—feel far more akin to a small Caribbean island than a Central American republic.

Day 5. Roatán (Mahogany Bay), Honduras. Ring in New Year's Eve in the Caribbean. Roatán, largest of the Bay Islands, is noted for its pristine coral reefs, beautiful beaches, lush tropical foliage, and friendly people. Christopher Columbus discovered the islands in 1502 on his fourth voyage; over the centuries they have been controlled by the British, the Spanish, and more than a few pirates. Today, the population is about 30,000. The island stretches 37 miles in length, just 30 miles from the Honduran mainland, with a mountainous backbone that provides excellent hiking, panoramic views, and lush scenery. Surrounded by warm Caribbean waters, this hilly island—frequented by diving enthusiasts—is picturesque, unspoiled, and one of the region's fastest-developing destinations. Back aboard Sun Princess that evening, the ship's New Year's Eve celebrations will not disappoint

Day 6. At sea, with CME from 9:30 AM to 11:45 AM. Happy New Year. Start 2027 the way you intend to continue—learning something genuinely useful. The rest of the day belongs to you and Sun Princess: the Dome transforms from poolside oasis to evening spectacle, the teppanyaki chefs at Umai are worth the reservation, and if you haven't tried Spellbound yet, tonight's the night.

Day 7. At sea, with CME from 9:30 AM to 11:45 AM. The final session wraps up the clinical material—and by now the group has the easy familiarity of colleagues who've shared a week of sun, good food, and honest conversation. The afternoon is yours for last-chance indulgences: one more swim, one more espresso on the deck, one more lap of the ship you've come to know by heart. The CBT Canada Farewell Party begins at 5:00 PM. All registrants and all their guests (of all ages!) are welcome. Dress up or don't—it's been that kind of week.

Day 8. Disembarkation rejuvenated. Seven nights of holiday warmth and collegiality have done their magic—you're heading home refreshed, with a deeper understanding of what actually makes people happier and 21 behaviour-change tools ready to deploy the moment you're home. The Caribbean has recharged you; the CME has rearmed you.

The ship

Introducing Sun Princess, the flagship of the Princess Cruises fleet and the first ship in the groundbreaking Sphere Class—named Condé Nast Traveler’s Mega Ship of the Year. Launched in February 2024, she introduced a new standard for cruise design: sleek, luminous, and engineered for elegance at sea. From the stunning glass-enclosed Piazza with its sweeping ocean views to the next-generation Princess Arena and the innovative Dome, every space aboard Sun Princess is built to impress.

The Dome—a first at sea—is a geodesic, glass-enclosed structure inspired by the terraces of Santorini. By day, it’s a tranquil oasis with an indoor/outdoor pool and panoramic views. By night, the pool becomes a stage and the entire space transforms: aerial performances, state-of-the-art lighting, and a South Beach energy that draws you back every evening. Below decks, the spherical Piazza atrium anchors the interior with ocean views projected on wraparound screens, live music, and the signature Crooner’s Martini Bar.

The Sun Princess dining is exceptional. Her thirty restaurant and bar venues include The Butcher’s Block by Dario (a collaboration with legendary Florentine butcher Dario Cecchini), Makoto Ocean (Edomae-style sushi), Love by Britto (an art-inspired dining experience with Romero Britto), and The Catch by Rudi (seafood). The triple-deck Horizons Dining Room offers three levels of complimentary dining—traditional, anytime, and comfort classics. You will not go hungry. You may, however, need a longer belt.

After dark, the Princess Arena—the most technologically advanced theatre in the fleet—hosts full-scale productions with three stage configurations and a 990-seat house. Around the corner, Spellbound by Magic Castle is a speakeasy-style illusion lounge created in partnership with Hollywood’s legendary Magic Castle; it seats just a few dozen and books up fast. On the pool deck, the expanded SkyDeck Sports Court offers pickleball, basketball, and a jogging track for those who prefer their relaxation at a higher heart rate.

For families, supervised programming runs ages 3–17. For couples, the Sanctuary Collection offers an exclusive sun deck and premium accommodations in a ship-within-a-ship experience. For suite guests, the Signature Collection—with its own restaurant, lounge, and private sundeck—delivers the kind of quiet luxury that makes you forget there are 4,000 other people aboard.

Sun Princess isn’t just the biggest ship Princess has ever built. It’s the one that made the rest of the industry take notes.
