CBT Canada and the Northwest Territories Medical Association are pleased to present a Medical CBT Day on Friday, February 3, 2017. The workshop will be held at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Center from 9:00AM to 4:30PM. Both a continental breakfast (8:30AM to 9:00AM) and a catered lunch (12:00PM to 1:00PM) are included.
Head instructor Greg Dubord, MD is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto, and the prime developer of medical CBT. He has presented over 400 workshops, including 50 for the College of Family Physicians of Canada, and is a University of Toronto CME Teacher of the Year. Assistant faculty includes Robert Krushel, MD.
OVERVIEW
Good-enough CBT can be integrated into ten-minute primary care appointments. In this six-hour workshop, you'll learn the essentials of a skill that may fundamentally change how you deal with mental health issues. Topics include:
- Techniques for increasing medication compliance
- Tools for more effective health behavior change
- How to identify and treat an empathy addiction
- The concept of patient maturity and natural consequences
- The importance of not working harder than (most) patients
- Persistent depressive disorder (dysthymia) management
- Diagnosis and treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder
- Tips for managing borderline personality disorder
- Tips for intervening with suicidal ideation
- Ten-minute couples counseling
The unrelenting focus of the workshop is practical tools for immediate use in rural & remote clinical practice.
This 6.0 hour workshop is "triple strength" (3:1) accredited for 18.0 Mainpro+ credits by the College of Family Physicians of Canada. Tuition is $495 for physicians, $295 for allied health professionals, and $195 for residents. Both breakfast, lunch, and snacks are included.
On August 30, 2016 CBT Canada became the first CME provider ever to be certified by the College of Family Physician of Canada to offer "triple strength" (3:1) credits in the new Mainpro+ system. The report of one of the CFPC accreditation reviewers was very succinct: "Two words: superlative & exemplary."

Northern Lights (aurora borealis) are very frequent in Yellowknife. Galileo named them after the Roman goddess of dawn (aurora) and the Greek name for the north wind (boreas). But it was the Norse who discovered that they were caused by the flickering armour of warlike virgins on horseback. If you're considering an organized tour to see the flickering ladies, consider the Aboriginal North Star Adventures.
Reality TV buffs have a lot to explore in YK. The old DC3s and their pilots at Buffalo Air are the stars of the History Channel’s Ice Pilots. The "toughest job in the world" is featured in the popular series Ice Road Truckers. And Animal Planet has a “reality” show about YK’s houseboaters called Ice Lake Rebels.
