No shirt, no shoes, no CME—but off-hours are all yours. The CMPA calls physician well-being "the missing quality of care indicator" because it so powerfully predicts patient outcomes. Physician, recharge yourself!

Can't make the CBT Tools module in Mexico this upcoming January? No worries! CBT Tools is held in Mexico every three years. And if you can't hang in there until January 2029, try Zoom xxxxxxxxxxxxxx.

Iberostar's 5-in-1 resort complex in the Mayan Riviera

Iberostar is a Spanish hotelier specializing in five-star properties. In the Mayan Riviera, Iberostar has an acclaimed "5-in-1" resort complex. Conveniently, all five "sub-resorts" are an easy walk (or free shuttle, if you prefer) to the central conference facilities. So choose your sub-resort (e.g., Maya or Grand) based only on your vacation needs:

Luxury.  Our personal favorite is the Maya. TripAdivsor rated the Maya the #13 all-inclusive in the world in 2016. The average rating is 5.0 (based on 9,268 reviews). All-in prices for a one-week getaway (January 20-27) range from $3,480 for a "junior suite" to precisely $4,159 for a "superior junior suite". Those prices are per couple, in Canadian dollars, including all taxes AND return airfare from Pearson. Prices from other hubs vary (call for quotes). Children 13 & over are presumed to eat like adults (perhaps your teens eat even more), and hence pay adult rates. For children 12 & under it's $950 (a big chunk of which goes toward the airfare).

Adults-only.  Are you the sort of person who prefers a vacation with no children in sight? If so, then stay at Iberostar's flagship Grand Hotel Paraíso (video tour). TripAdvisor rated the Grand the #1 all-inclusive in the world in 2011 (reference). Although it dropped to "only" the world's 14th best in 2016, the Grand is reliably awesome. With a mean TripAdvisor rating of 5.0 based on 5,732 reviews (reference), it's a statistically-significant five-star (p < 0.05). All-in prices for a January 20-27 Grand getaway start at $4,980 per couple, which includes return airfare from Toronto (and all taxes).

Budget.  If your budget is your primary concern, then book at the perfectly-adequate LindoBeach or Del Mar. Whatever sub-resort you choose, rest assured that you'll have an awesome escape from the Canadian January Blahs!

Travelling solo? All-in single prices for a one-week getaway (January 20-27) are as follows: Maya ($2,100) and Grand Hotel Paraiso ($2,970). Those figures include return airfare from Toronto, all taxes, and a heck of a lot of fun.

The airport experience matters when you travel a lot, and we're very happy with Cancun International. CUN's Terminal 4, which opened in October 2017, has a multitude of shops, cafés & restaurants... and it's more modern & efficient than many American airports.

You're nearly there! Part of the appeal of the Iberostar complex is its proximity to the airport. Taking under 30 minutes on a very modern 4-lane highway, the ground transfer time is a fraction of that of many other all-inclusives.

WiFi is ubiquitous at the Iberostar. Whether you're enjoying a quiet espresso under a palm tree or watching the kids at the splash pad, you have the option of maintaining your digital life (e.g., posting beach photos).

Art thou gym-y? If so, you'll be pleased to know that the Iberostar just opened up a massive new indoor (i.e., air conditioned) fitness center in February 2018. It's got all the bells, dumbbells, and whistles you'd expect in our happy modern era.

Mexico offers superb value compared to many other Caribbean destinations. Why? The Canadian dollar is strong against the peso, but weak against the American dollar, which is the de facto currency on most of the Caribbean islands.

Escape the January Blahs

The reality of January hits the doctor

Maybe it will be different this January. Maybe you'll emerge from your Christmas "break" energized. And maybe this winter's weather will be amazing. But what are the odds?

What's more likely is that a planned January getaway would do you good (and indirectly, your patients too). What's also likely is that if you book today instead of last-minute, you'll snap up your preferred travel times & suite selections while saving a good bit of money.

Give your lucky loved one(s) a restorative post-Christmas getaway. Give yourself immunity to the craziness of Christmas—and to the upcoming winter weather. Book today.  XXXXXXXXXXXXX

Booking instructions

Book today by connecting with our awesome Arlene at (877) 466-8228 x 333 or vacation@cbt.ca. There's no extra charge if you book c/o Arlene, and she'll also take care of the CME registration for you (otherwise you'll need to register yourself with this link).

Most guests are staying for the week of Sunday, January 20. However, feel free to book whatever vacation duration you wish (i.e., 5, 8, 10, or 14 days), as long as your dates include the CME dates of Wednesday, January 23 to Friday, January 25. Note that if you choose to stay outside of Iberostar's 5-in-1 complex, you may get dinged with a $60 USD/d "resort access fee" to get into the conference center.

The procrastinator's penalty

A tardy chief

We work with some truly first-class venues (e.g., the Iberostar) which deservedly sell out many months in advance. Unfortunately, some doctors share traits with mere mortals, including the tendency to procrastinate. Regrettably, even the most strident cries of "Do you know who I am?" cannot secure the Chief of Staff (or any other Minor Deity) the best flights and a prime suite when the snowplows are already out. You owe it to yourself and your family to book early. How early? Those who've learned their lessons and take vacations seriously snap up the prime options a year or more in advance. That's just how it is. Book today. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
