CBT Kauai
Earn 36.0 Mainpro+ credits / 36 AAFP Prescribed credits from the aloha-spirited winners of the national CME Program Award of the College of Family Physicians of Canada—and explore the exotic Garden Island of Kauai.
This CME respects your time. This workshop is certified at the highest level (three-credits-per-hour) by the College of Family Physicians of Canada. Our 3:1 CME saves you an incredible amount of time (and therefore money) over 1:1 CME. Just have a look at the five-year benefit calculations.
Vacation CME has many advantages over local CME. See what your colleagues are saying, and explore the case for it being four-credit-per-hour CME.
ALOHA! CBT Kauai will be held at the spectacular Grand Hyatt on sunny Poipu Beach from March 22-24, 2021. Workshop hours are 8:00AM to 12:15PM on the Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday, leaving you & your family free all other times to explore & play on the exuberant Garden Island.
The CME is the acclaimed three-credits-per-hour CBT for Anxiety module (you'll earn 36.0 Mainpro+ credits / 36.0 AAFP Prescribed credits) from just 12.0 workshop hours). Join us and you’ll learn a marvellous set of ultra-brief techniques to help patients overcome shyness, worry, panic & other common anxiety disorders.
Head instructor Greg Dubord, MD is a recent University of Toronto CME Teacher of the Year and is nicely warmed up after giving over 500 CBT workshops. Seasoned assistant faculty includes Peter Duffy, MD, CCFM(EM), FCFP, Co-Director of the CMCBT Program; uOttawa child psychiatrist Helen Spenser, MSW, MD, CCFP, FRCPC, one of Canada's leading authorities on CBT for anxiety in children & adolescents; and UCalgary's Sanjeeve Sockanathan, MD, CCFP, MRCGP, PGCMDE (Oxford).
Many physician leaders have been trained by CBT Canada over the past twenty years. Alumni include CFPC presidents (both national & provincial), department chairs, residency training program directors—and even a few doctors who are comfortable using drills & saws. No shirt, no shoes, no CME. However, what you do during non-CME hours is up to you. The CMPA now refers to physician well-being as "the missing quality of care indicator" because it so powerfully predicts patient outcomes. Physician, recharge yourself!
New York Time's 36 Hours in Kauai, Hawaii has this subtitle, "All the raves you’ve heard are true. Kauai is a lush island with just the right mix of amenities and untamed beauty." Elaborating, "The Garden Isle is a place that rewards exploration and you won’t have to look hard to carve out your own little corner of paradise."
National Geographic Traveler ranked Kauai as one of the 21 "must-see" destinations for 2017. Kauai is one of just three locations in the United States (and the only Hawaiian island) showcased. The article cites Kauai's "blockbuster locations" with "jaw-dropping views" and "unbelievably lush landscapes". Kauai and the other 20 "Best of the World" destinations are featured in the Dec 2016/Jan 2017 issue.
Huffington Post has a terrific article entitled 11 Reasons Why You Need to Visit Kauai in Your Lifetime. "Kauai is the ultimate destination in Hawaii. The Garden Isle checks off every essential on any traveler’s bucket list: beaches, hikes, resorts, and then some. Not to mention it’s one of the most naturally beautiful places on earth."
You snooze, you lose. On November 9, 2018 a North Shore home sold for $46.1 million, shattering the Hawaiian single-family record. The name Hale Ae Kai loosely translates to "2nd home for ophthalmologists". The 9,000 square foot Bali-style structure sits nicely on its 15-acres. If it rents out like before, it's yours for just $18,000/night (plus a $1,600 cleaning fee).
WARNING: Your time on the intoxicatingly-beautiful tropical island of Kauai may cause you to question some of your major life decisions; e.g., "Why did I skip coconut tree climbing lessons in high school?" and/or "Why didn't I join the Kalalau hippies when they invited me back in med school?" and/or "Why didn’t I become a professional surfer when I had the chance?"
We work with some truly first-class venues (e.g., the Grand Hyatt) which deservedly sell out months in advance. Unfortunately, some doctors share traits with mere mortals, including the tendency to procrastinate. Regrettably, even the most strident cries of "Do you know who I am?" cannot secure the Chief of Staff (or any other Minor Deity) the best flights and a prime suite when the snowplows are already out. You owe it to yourself and your family to book early. How early? Those who've learned their lessons and take vacations seriously snap up the prime options a year or more in advance. That's just how it is.

Bucketlistosis (noun): Angst (up to & including existential) precipitated by the knowledge that one is aging without having made much progress on one's "bucket list". Treatment: One CBT Canada workshop annually.
Kauai real estate. Sadly, Julia Roberts sold her 2 acre Hanalei Bay property for $16.2 million, and Michael Crichton sold his for $46.1 million (only $5 million per bedroom). Happily, the HGTV's Ultimate House is listed for just $8.9 million. Better still, make Mark Zuckerberg an offer on his $145 million North Shore complex.
Condé Nast Traveler declared Kauai's North Shore "Hawaii's Hidden Gem" and a last bastion of undiscovered authenticity. "The drive from Princeville down to Hanalei, on the North Shore of Kauai, is one of the better ways on this planet to spend ten minutes. Something magical happens on this drive. At the very least, you look up from your iPhone, and everyone in the car falls silent."
Speaking Hawaiian is easy if you happen to speak Ta'hitian, from which it is derived. However, if you're a haole with a native tongue of English or French, you may not know a pupu from a humuhumunukunukuapua'a (although they can be one in the same). Hawaiian Words may save your okole.
